Land Acknowledgement

Today, June, 21, 2021, National Indigenous Peoples Day, One World Bazaar recognizes that it is built on the traditional, ancestral and un-ceded, un-surrendered Territory of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation

One World Bazaar has been lucky enough to be on its current site for 18 years but the former farmland in Manotick Station has had a rich history long before Ottawa became Canada's Capital.

Having built our business dealing with artisans from around the world who are often part of indigenous groups practicing traditional craftsmanship, we know it is proper to acknowledge those whose land our business exists on and that many indigenous communities in Canada have been denied their opportunity to practice their traditional art and craftsmanship.

We as settlers are being called upon to help in the healing and seeking justice by listening, learning and amplifying Indigenous voices in the spirit that we may understand the gravity of our history and to ensure future generations will know the truth about this land we now call home but for them, whose home it already was. Expect there to be more discoveries like Kamloops that will be just as shocking as we uncover the truth of our past.

Donate to Indian Residential Schools Survivors Society is a B.C. based organization that’s been providing services like counselling and health and cultural services to survivors of residential schools. Donate here. Residential school survivors who need support can call the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line at 1-866-925-4419.

Not just in Canada but just about everywhere in the world the story of colonialism has been repeated and in the process has erased the culture and identity the indigenous peoples of that land. Use this tool to help you figure out whose land you're on, https://native-land.ca/about/\

Read the Truth and Reconciliation report and see the calls to action on how you can help make sure your government and elected officials at all levels, your employers, your schools and the businesses you deal with are implementing the recommendations of the commission. http://trc.ca/assets/pdf/Calls_to_Action_English2.pdf
